ACB Congratulates World Intellectual Property Organization on Treaty

American Council of the Blind

WASHINGTON, DC, June 28, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The American Council of the Blind (ACB) is pleased to congratulate the World Intellectual Property Organization for the adoption of a comprehensive treaty at its diplomatic conference currently being held in Marrakech, Morocco.

ACB's president, Mitch Pomerantz, said, "This treaty has the potential to change people's lives. It will set in motion processes that will finally end the shameful shortage of books that has plagued people worldwide who are blind." That shortage, noted Melanie Brunson, ACB's executive director, who is currently in Marrakech observing the adoption proceedings, "has been a major barrier to the education, employment, and full integration of people who are blind into their societies. Currently, our community only has access to less than 5 percent of books published annually." Pomerantz added, "This is about to change, and we are extremely pleased by the results achieved by this body."
